The 2nd Hotel Sustainability Conference and Marketplace, organized by SHA and supported by Singapore Tourism Board and Enterprise Singapore, took place on 5 October 2023 at Shangri-La Singapore. Insightful and engaging, the spotlight of the event was the unveiling of the Hotel Industry Sustainability Pledge where 136 hotels committed their support to “Minimise single-use packaging for drinking water and guest room amenities, while maximising use of recycled content by 2025”.

The event was graced by Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

Other highlights of event included the launch of the online Hotel Sustainability Playbook, recognition of 40 winners comprising 48 hotels of the Singapore Hotel Sustainability Award and the exciting Hotel Sustainability Impact Challenge. For the Challenge, four start-ups pitched before a panel of judges to vie for the top prize of $30,000 from Enterprise Singapore to fund a pilot with a hotel. The four companies short-listed for the Challenge were EcoSense Enviro Solutions Pte Ltd, N&E Innovations Pte Ltd, Wasteviz Pte Ltd and Westcom Bio-Tech Pte Ltd.

As part of knowledge sharing, there was an informative presentation on Sustainability Data Trends for Singapore by Mr Eric Ricaurte, Founder & CEO, Greenview and a thought-provoking panel discussion that was moderated by Mr Robert Hecker, Managing Director, Horwath, HTL. The panel of esteemed panelists comprised:

·      Ms Meridith Beaujean, Executive Director, Sustainability, Marina Bay Sands
