HOTEL SECURITY CONFERENCE CUM AWARDS PRESENTATION CEREMONY 2014

The Annual Hotel Security Conference cum Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on 14 November 2014, from 2.00 to 5.30 pm at the Furama RiverFront Singapore. Some 210 delegates, invited guests and award winners attended the ½-day event.

The theme of the Conference was “Safeguarding Your Hotel: A Concerted Effort”. The Guest-of-Honour for the event was Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Four papers were presented at the Conference:                    

-  “Overview of Crime Situation in Hotels in Singapore” by Mr Lee Yock Kin, Community Involvement Division, Operations Department, Singapore Police Force

- “Current and Emerging Terrorist Threats” by Dr Rohan Gunaratna, Head, International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University

- “Hotel Security Report Card 2014” by Mr Jon Knight, Director, ROCAM International Pte. Ltd

- “The ABCs of Suspicious Tell-Tale Indicators for the Hotel Industry” by Mr Patrick Ong, Commanding Officer, TOPSIS Core Group, Centre for Protective Security Studies, Home Team Academy

A mini exhibition to showcase some of the latest security equipment and technology was also held on the same day.
 
Security Awards (Individual and Organisations)
            
Held in conjunction with the conference was the presentation of the 19th Annual Hotel Security Awards. The awards were jointly presented by SHA, SPF and NCPC.

Three categories of Awards for individuals and one for organizations were given out.

The individual awards were for Honesty, Bravery and Vigilance. A total of 25 nominees were singled out for Special Mention.

82 hotels were recognized for their contribution towards the high standard of security in the Singapore hotel industry. Out of the 82 hotels, 65 of them received the “Hotel Security Excellence Award” for achieving the SS 545 standards and 17 hotels received the “Hotel Security Award” for establishing good security measures based on SS 545.
